The Morgan Horse is named for Justin Morgan, the man who owned the Morgan breed's foundation stallion, a horse named Figure. The average height of the Morgan horse is 14.2 to 15.2 hands (one hand equals four inches) Morgan horses were used by the cavalry in the American Civil War. Morgan horses are popular for driving, in which the horse is driven by a person in a carriage. The Morgan horse breed was established in Vermont.
